  "Mc Laren now" : commemoration of his birth

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of Norman McLaren's birth, the Annecy Festival and the NFB are collaborating to pay him tribute with a special programme.

The Annecy Festival is joining forces with the National Film Board of Canada to honour the centennial of Norman McLaren's birth, to celebrate the legacy and influence of this animation pioneer.

This commemoration, "McLaren Now", identifies McLaren's innovative and curious spirit that is still present in contemporary productions.

For the occasion, Marcel Jean, Artistic Director of the Annecy Festival, has put together 3 programmes:

  • The first programme will be broadcast exclusively online on the NFB's website comprised of a selection of animation films made by artistic successors of Norman McLaren and contemporary filmmakers;
  • The second and third programmes are films along the same lines, screened as sneak previews during the Annecy Festival.

These films will be presented later at different festivals and events in Canada and internationally, before being put on the NFB's website.

In the setting of Annecy's International Animation Film Festival, an exhibition has also been organised by the Musée-Château, from 30th April until 16th June: Norman McLaren Inheritance & Pierre Hébert.
