  Thématique: New Animation Techniques

On 16th May, CITIA will be hosting a new Thématique for a morning dedicated to new animation techniques.

As the 2017 Annecy International Animation Festival is approaching, CITIA, organiser of the event, is teaming up with IMAGINOVE to host a new Thématique (morning meeting) dedicated to today’s cutting-edge animation techniques at Les Papeteries – Image Factory.

Intrinsically connected, creativity (the very essence of animation) and technological innovation have been moving forward hand in hand for decades by reciprocally nourishing one another. In 1933, the first innovations came with the arrival of depth technology, made possible thanks to the invention of the multiplane camera. Technological advancements quickly stormed through the animation industry, up until everything went digital and Pixar Studios introduced their renowned computer-generated imagery (CGI). Ever since, 3D techniques, VR and robotics have made their way into the film market and open up an infinite number of further technical possibilities.

Not wanting to let this technological wave pass over their heads, certain studios like Aardman (Wallace & Gromit, Shaun the Sheep) and LAIKA (Coraline, Kubo and the Two Strings) managed to bring imagination, inventiveness and technological innovation together all at once – which was no small feat in this digital age.

This new Thématique will mostly focus on the issues around the place that artistic expression holds in 3D animation production. You’ll be able to have a discussion with our speakers:

  • Cédric Guiard, founder and CEO of EISKO, a company specialized in capture and photoreal reconstruction and modeling;
  • Rémi Ronfard, Team Leader at IMAGINE;
  • David Toyou and Géraldine Ricart, founders of Bleank, who will present Blank Ink, software dedicated to artists and creatives striving to obtain very specific visual effects;
  • and Suleyman Yazki, Artistic Director and Visual Designer at Freestudios (Geneva).

If you’d like to attend this Thématique dedicated to new animation techniques happening Tuesday 16th May at 8:30 am at Les Papeteries – Image Factory in Cran-Gevrier, sign up (seating is limited).
