It was created in 2006 by merging two associations:
- the Plateforme des usages du multimédia (Pumma) and
- the International Animated Film Centre (Cica), organiser of the International Animation Film Festival since 1984.
Missions are focused on three complementary areas:
- Culture, with the International Animation Film Festival, making Annecy the leading appointment in the world for moving pictures, an initiation to animation for a diverse public through educational training programmes in imagery, and CITIA Exposition, an exhibition giving an overview of animated images;
- Economy, with different goals that include strengthening local economy and encouraging companies to set up in the area, in close collaboration with the Imaginove Cluster, and organising events such as the Mifa or the Forum Blanc (professional meetings dedicated to Animation and Cross-Media)...;
- Training and Research, including such programmes as a year-long training course in 3D Character Animation, created in 2010 in collaboration with Gobelins, l'école de l'image.
